RYVITA® Recipe

Ingredients

  • RYVITA® Cracked Black Pepper
  • 2 sausages cooked
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 200g chicken cooked
  • 2 rashers of bacon cooked
  • 60g pearl barley
  • 150g potatoes (diced)
  • 2 carrots (diced)
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • 450ml chicken stock
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 small onion (optional) chopped

Method

this is a one-pot soup - heat up your casserole pot on the hob and cook the chopped onions until soft and add the spices. Chop up the chicken, bacon and sausages then add to the pot and mix in with the spices. Add the stock and vegetables and then add the pearl barley. Season, then cover and simmer until all vegetables are cooked! Delicious winter warmer.

The story that goes with this soup is that a beggar was caught by a king in a far away land and to save himself from punishment he told the king he could make soup from a stone- the king was intrigued and allowed him to prove this and whilst making this soup he asked for the ingredients to help bring out the flavour in the stone- hence, stone soup!
